Hello, welcome to my website. My Name is Ruben and i live with my wife and three kids in Evergem in the northern part of belgium (few kilometers north of Gent) I was born in 1977 and as a child i was interested in everything that moved and crawled in the garden. My first turtles were some Red eared sliders (Trachemys scripta elegans) that i won at a fair at the age of about 12. Soon a few became a bunch and that was the start of a fantastic hobby. I still remember the first time i ever laid eyes on some spotted turtles (Clemmys guttata) i was 16 years old at the time and a friend of mine told me that spotted turtles are the rolls rocys of turtles. i probably new right then that one day i would get me some of those...  so things happened.

When in my teen years, everything was put on hold for a few years because of other interests. but around the age of 20 the collection again started to grow. I came in contact with the Dutch turtle association (NBSV) where i became an active member. I also got connected with the european studbook foundation (ESF) where i am still co-studbookkeeeper for The spotted pond turtle (Geoclemmys hamiltonni). A lot of my animals are lent to me in breeding loan by ESF. they where almost al confiscated animals that have been placed by ESF.

With this site i would like to share some information with you mainly about keeping and breeding these wonderful creatures. But as  with many things in life, "there are many roads that lead to Rome".  Almost all information on this site comes from personal experience and i will try to avoid any copy paste jobs from other sites. I am 100% sure that there are many good ways to keep and breed turtles/tortoise When someone keeps turtles or tortoise a minimum of simple logic and insight is all you need to get started with this fine hobby.

Happy surfing the site
